“First this: God created the Heavens and Earth—all you see, all you don’t see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God’s Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.”

As the radio plays the sounds of Christmas cheer and shops are filled with sights and sounds of merriment, I'm reminded of the day before Jesus arrived. The hectic, chaotic, painful moments in the lives of his parents, their nation, and their world. The day before the birth of our Savior was pregnant with expectation, but filled with actual heartache and trials.
Today as we celebrate the gift of Jesus I want to be mindful of those who are hurting, lonely, and feel lost. Hope seems far off. Life can feel like a bottomless emptiness some days, and for many the holidays are the hardest of all. Today, in that darkness, know that Jesus is there too.
Tomorrow will come, light will shine, you'll see clearly again. Christmas reminds us a Savior is born. Jesus is our gift of life and light. Be well today. In all the places of hurt and loss, be whole in Jesus. Let him into the darkness.
I wish you a marvelous Christmas!
Blessings today and always! –M
